Summer Camps About To Begin!
Ballet Camps Begin Next Week!
Ballet Camps meet at the Lookout Mountain Elementary School skating rink
321 N. Bragg Avenue
Lookout Mountain, TN
There are still a few spots available for the first week:
July 14-18, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 9:30-12
Recital 11:45am on Friday
There are also still a few spots left in the second camp as well:
July 21-25, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 9:30-12
Recital 11:45am on Friday
In each camp, we'll be focusing on The Fairy Doll Ballet, or Die Puppenfee, an Austrian court ballet by Josef Bayer written in 1888. This short ballet is the sweet story of dolls from all over the world coming to life in a doll shop. The most beautiful doll is, of course, the fairy doll ballerina.
We will learn the story of the ballet and listen to the music of the ballet as well as learn ballet positions and movements. Each day we will work on the backdrop for the ballet, color pictures of dolls from around the world and do a ballet craft.
For this camp you will need to bring an American Girl sized doll. We will be making a matching skirt for ourselves and our dolls and creating international costumes for our dolls.
Cost for camp is $100 for the first child first week
$85 for siblings or second week
Each camp will have slightly different crafts and activities, so feel free to take both weeks.
These summer camps are ballet fun appropriate for any age.

Summer Camps 2014!
For our Summer Camps, we’ll be focusing on the Fairy Doll Ballet: a ballet that lets every doll have
center stage! We’ll have the opportunity to dress up like dolls from different countries, dance with
our dolls, and make doll crafts along with practicing our ballet moves and positions. The summer
camps are appropriate for any age.

New Ballet Opportunity and Week 2 of Ballet Camp
Because of the request of a mother, I have been thinking about the younger ones among our girls who await anxiously the age of maturity when ballet is a possibility for them.
What if we made that wait a little easier by offering a ballet prep class?
Pending interest (I need at least 4 to begin it), I will teach a 20 minute ballet prep class for girls ages 2 to 4 on Mondays after the regular ballet classes. The cost for this class will be $50 for the semester and recital.
The Ballet Prep Class will work such concepts as awareness of body in space, stretching, basic ballet positions and steps, rhythm and free form dance. We will also play dancing games and learn a short recital piece to perform at the recital on November 13th (at 3:45pm).
FYI: I usually suggest that students be at least 3 years of age for the regular ballet classes, and I have students up to age 10 taking those classes. Students are mixed ages, but I have certain requirements for each age group. For instance, I feel that a 3 year old in a regular class who can find her spot, respond to direct requests and sit and stand with the rest of the girls is doing wonderfully! With the older girls, I work with more advanced concepts of doing the steps with ballet poise, rhythm and musicality.
And now for some pics of the girls from the 2nd Ballet Camp.
Everyone did so well; thank you for your participation!
